Don’t forget about climate change

Andrew Chuma No Comments

Fyi.

Certainly our acute issues are dominating our lives (coronavirus, politics, racial tensions), but keep in mind that all of these things are irrelevant on a planet hot hospitable to life.

Global warming and climate change has already changed how we live (there are many arguments abut how climate has contributed to the coronavirus pandemic and even racial tensions because of food inequities), but it will dramatically change the lives of our kids, grandkids and later generations.

Vaccine reality check

Andrew Chuma No Comments

Good Monday morning.

I listened to a podcast this am with 5 former CDC directors, under 3 different administrations on both sides of the political fence. They were universal in their concern about how we as a nation have responded to this pandemic and how foolish we look on the world stage.

As far as a vaccine is concerned, although there is hope, there are a few basic numbers which we should keep in mind.

The earliest we will see a vaccine is after the new year.

The earliest most people will be able to get it is many months after introduction. Quite simply, those in need along with essential workers will get it first. How those are defined will be interesting to see.

As far as numbers go, even if it is 70% effective (hopeful) and 70% of people get immunized (hopeless given recent polls), at most 50% of people will have some protection.

The bottom line, those very PPE basic measures and behaviors will continue to be crucial, probably for years to come. Sad and frustrating but likely true.

DISTANCE. Physical distancing, not social distancing. We need each other.

WEAR A MASK. Wear an effective one and wear it correctly.

WASH YOUR HANDS. Don’t rely on hand sanitizers unless it’s an emergency.

DON’T TOUCH YOUR FACE.

VENTILATE.

VACCINATE.

GET HEALTHY.

Stay safe and be well. AC
