Loss of smell and taste as an early sign of possible coronavirus – update.
Our ENT academy has been gathering data on the incidence of loss of smell and subsequently taste (since smell accounts for the majority of what we perceive as “taste”). It appears that up to 28% of people who are diagnosed with Covid-19 had loss of these senses early on, even before other symptoms develop.
Loss of smell and taste are common with common colds and allergies also so don’t panic, just be aware and you may want to consider more social distanceing as well as a thionk back on you movements and contacts in the previous week or so.
Testing at this stage is probably not going to be beneficial and potyentialyh misleading.
There will be more on the testinbg confusion later today so stay posted.
Stay safe and be well.
