Why might President Trump be having such an APPARENT fast response after being infected?
First of all, we do not have all the information. He has clearly downplayed his symptoms. His own doctors have been caught in lies about his status, particularly when it comes to oxygen requirements and the bottom line is that it is still very early in his recovery.
He is NOT out of the woods, as his own doctors have stated. Most people who have serious issues with Covid-19 have them starting 7-10 days after they come down with symptoms. Most deaths occur more than 14 days after symptoms start. And he is NOT healthy. Obese, hypertensive, most likely diabetic or pre-diabetic and his diet sucks.
Secondly, he has received all the known, proven and effective treatments at lowering viral load and diminishing the duration of the illness VERY quickly.
Why?
BECAUSE HE’S THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES DOOFUS AND HE SHOULD GET SUCH TREATMENT ASAP.
But that is not realistic for the other 99.99% of the rest of us.
When you get a herpes cold sore, if you take acyclovir, a common antiviral treatment, it does reduce the degree and duration of the outbreak BUT only if you take it at the first inklings of an ulcer developing. Even waiting 12 hours renders acyclovir almost useless. The same goes for the flu and Tamiflu. The longer you wait, the less effective it is.
The same is with Remdesivir, the antiviral which he did receive. Most studies have shown improvement. The patients who had less benefit almost always received it more than 7 days after diagnosis. The earlier you take it, the better it works. The same is probably true for this new, not yet FDA approved, lab produced antibody cocktail. He has received these treatments within days of symptoms so they are much more likely to be effective at reducing the severity and duration of his disease but this is not available to anyone else yet. Studies are still ongoing.
As far as steroids go, they too are effective at decreasing the over-exaggerated inflammatory response, the “cytokine storm” and have once again been given much earlier than the vast majority of patients get it. By the way, I use dexamethasone almost every day and common side effects are agitation, sleeplessness and mania, all of which he seems to be suffering from. It also raises blood sugar and blood pressure and lowers immune response so it is not a drug you want to take “just in case” or for too long. I usually only use it for a few doses or days.
The bottom line is that his downplaying his early response and promoting the idea that we should not fear the virus is unethical, irresponsible and I would say criminal. People have died as a result of following his cavalier example. And now, he has infected many people in the Whitehouse. His irresponsibility has resulted in a national security issue.
Just an fyi, it is a crime in every state if you are infected with HIV and have sex without disclosing it. I think that if you knowingly expose people to Coronavirus, a potentially lethal disease, should the same apply? Coronavirus is on track to become the 3rd leading cause of death in the US. HIV death rate isn;t even in the top 15. Just sayin’
As the president, should he get the max treatment as early as possible, absolutely. But that is NOT realistic for the rest of us.
You MUST try not to catch it. People are dying. People are suffering long-term side effects and we will see the chronic lung, kidney, brain, liver… you name your organ, damage that may arise in the future.
DISTANCE. Physical distancing, not social distancing. We need each other.
WEAR A MASK.Wear an effective one and wear it correctly.
WASH YOUR HANDS. Don’t rely on hand sanitizers unless it’s an emergency. DON’T TOUCH YOUR FACE.
VENTILATE.
VACCINATE. I got mine yesterday.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GET HEALTHY.
Stay safe and be well.
