What is the logic of jamming thousands of people all together to watch a bunch of musicians play to celebrate “life coming back to the city”? The opposite is happening. Covid is back on the rise in the city.
Although this show is outside, this virus is significantly more infectious and we have already tracked outbreaks in other parts of the country to outdoor music events.
We need to be smart! I love music also and want all this to go away, but that is just not reality. This virus is here to stay.
Some NYC restaurants require proof of vaccination to eat there. Why? Because we are at the start of another wave of Covid, this time with a much worse variant. San Francisco has mandated proof of vaccination to enter any indoor public facility.
The reality is that we are at the start of another serious wave of this pandemic. Florida had over 150,000 new Covid cases last week. Texas had just under 100,000. Some states have no ICU beds. Dallas has no pediatric ICU beds. Many more kids are getting sick. Death rates are on the rise.
It’s not the immigrants crossing the border. Their case rate is exactly the same, if not lower than what the numbers are here in the US. Mexico has a lower infection rate now.
It’s all on us.
This is a pandemic of the unvaccinated. It is a pandemic of the selfish.
Please be smart. Get vaccinated. Wear a mask. Behave cautiously. Protect yourself, your kids, your family and your friends.
